Empowerment of Women

Empowerment of women indicates a process that helps women get the opportunity to join the workforce and contribute to the family income and influence the family and social affairs.

Empowerment of Women
Empowerment of Women is very Essential
In the past, women were kept away from out-of-home productive work. The hearth was their workplace, and so,

Cooking, cleaning, washing, giving birth and rearing up children became their jobs. In Bangladesh, women are still lagging behind. They are the cruellest victims of injustice.

Bangladeshi women are being hindered for various reasons. The majority of our women do not enjoy freedom. Actually, economic freedom is mandatory for women's empowerment. So empowerment of women is very essential.

Women are the worst sufferers in Bangladesh. Superstitions and religious dogmas are belittling their position and dignity. The birth of a girl in a poor family is often unwelcome. The poor parents very often do not think of sending her to school. Before attaining physical and mental maturity, she is sent to her husband's house. In her in-law's house, she faces misbehaviour. She is often tortured by her in-law's house member for dowry. She is threatened to be divorced, and in extreme cases, she dies.

In society, women are no less important than men. About half of our total population is women. No nation can make real progress by keeping aloof a full half of its population. So,  empowerment of women is a must.

Proper steps should be taken for their empowerment. We should make our women conscious of their right. Women have the potentiality to participate in the overall development of the country. They should be made self-reliant by imparting to them proper education and employment. Allotment for their development should be increased. Our social prejudices regarding girls must change.

We can say that if we want to keep pace with the challenge of the new millennium, gender discrimination must be wiped out. In this regard, the government along with people from all walks of life should come forward to co-operate wholeheartedly.

I hope you really enjoyed this article about Empowerment of Women.
